We had 3 in our shop but they sold the first day! Let us know what you think Frank. Have you seen his other vids? How does it compare?

Hello All-
I bought the DVD last week and have watched all of it now. I was just wondering what everyone thought.
Also, I hear our very own Erskoman has a new DVD. Is that one out yet?
And? is there any update on Steve's DVD and the release date on that little gem?

What do you think of it? I have not seen it.

Well?
I wanted to see others opinions first, just to see if I was missing something and I certainly did not want my personal feelings to get in the way of anyone seeing it (supporting) for themselves, but since you asked?
I thought Greg was very enthusiastic and entertaining, moreso than so many who have done vids. He did not look like someone was holding a gun to his head, so that was a plus. He covered a lot of good ground in some areas that I had not seen before, such as the necessity of being a pro and having a right attitude. That being said, I felt the topics were covered in a very stream of consciousness type manner and I felt somethings somewhat repetitive. For example, I think that he plays the same solo over every tune, just switching the genre. 16 bars fill, 8 bars blushda, 8 bars hand to hand(?). Those are guesses about the approximate space, but tell me you don't see the blushda at least once per tune!
The most valuable part of the discs was the discussion about the latin playing, which I thought was helpful.
Anyway, perhaps others may have a better opinion or at least a better perspective. I know, I could not do better, so please save your breath on that perspective !

I really enjoyed it, especially his sense of humor! I watched it while doing other things around the house, so I will need to look at it again in one sitting to pick up on things I might have missed.
I'm looking forward to his drum clinic in KC on Thursday. He'll be at the shop I teach at, so hopefully I'll get to talk to him in more depth before and after the clinic. He's also teaching lessons the next day ($100/1hour private or $40/1hour group) and I haven't decided whether or not to take one. Don't know if I want to spend that amount of money for just one hour of time with Gregg.

Mike,
Do it man! $100 is nothing in relation to the experience you'll have. Seriously, Gregg is one under-rated top player. His attitude is worth the lesson fee alone.
Let us all know how the clinic goes...

Well, I agree that one hour is somewhat limited. I mean, I would use that time just to talk to the guy and then move on to another hour of actual lessons!

TAKE THE LESSON.
Seriously, in 1 hour, Gregg will ask you to play, take lots of notes, and provide you with feedback and things to work on, which will take about a year.

I haven't watched the whole thing, yet. However,I know what you're saying, though, from what I HAVE seen, there were times when I thought, "Show me something, Gregg!". But, if you appreciate it for what it is, like you said, his enthusiasm, humor, his quest to become a better drummer by asking all of his heroes, "How did you do that?", who are, incidentally, his FRIENDS. I can really appreciate that and just knowing what he gets hired for, week after week. Along with knowing what he CAN do, on the drums, that you don't see him do in the dvd.... Well, he's a great drummer, in my book. And I've met him, briefly, and he showed me no ego, whatsoever. I have nothing bad to say about him.

He gave an excellent clinic at Guitar Source last night! I talked to him quite a bit before the clinic, and he pimped myself and the other drum teacher quite a bit during the clinic. He did the Stewart Copeland tribute thing last night, something I hadn't seen (the last time I saw his clinic, he did the Ringo thing). I got to go with the owners of the store, some of the employees, Gregg, and the Zildjian rep for some food and drinks after the clinic and had a great old time! Gregg's a BIG baseball fan!
I'm taking a private lesson with him at noon today, so I'll get back to the forum with what we worked on afterwards!
